Rudraksha
Mukhi Beads These seeds of the rudraksha tree are worn for prosperity, peace and health. The beads can be strung for wearing, carried in a pocket or kept in a sacred space. The number of faces, or sides, on each bead is traditionally associated with a certain mantra and quality. Beads are about ¾" in diameter and are sold individually. Throughout the ages many species of plants and animals have either disappeared or transformed to keep up with the demands of evolution. Some species withstand the test of time and stay true to their original form and beauty. Among these miracles is the rudraksha tree, which grows today in the harsh regions of the Himalayas of India, Nepal, Indonesia, Java and Jakarta. Similar to a banyan tree in size, it can take up to 18 years for a rudraksha tree to blossom into its full shape. Rudraksha is the fruit that this tree bears, surrendering its children to the inevitable forces of nature. The thin outer layer of the fruit is green, but when picked and set out to dry its color turns anywhere from a deep red to black. Rudraksha fruit contains as few as one and as many as twenty-one seeds each with a corresponding mukhi or face. Each rudraksha has a different number of mukhas, and although all are considered sacred, each one has a different effect for the wearer. Many who travel the spiritual path have searched for the fruit of this auspicious tree, aware of its powerful ability to vibrate with the particular needs or desires of the person adorned by rudraksha. Mukhi beads can be strung for wearing, carried in a pocket, or kept in a sacred space. The number of faces or sides, on each bead is traditionally associated with a certain mantra and quality. Beads are about ¾" in diameter and are sold singly.
